Living in a nation of democracy
and freedom, the good people of the United States have, I believe, an
obligation to actively be informatively involved in their politics. Of course
voting is important but as a country of once originally open minded and
accepting citizens, now we have large portions of citizens who merely stick to
their party of origin because their family originates from that party or the
individual is strongly behind several conceptual ideas of that party which are
important but should not be deciding factors for an individual to enter office.
These ideas are usually dealing with issues like abortion and gay marriage.
Citizens tend to choose a candidate strictly based on the candidate’s position
on topics like these, even if their economic policy is not in their best
interest. This is a direct disrespect to the right we have in choosing our
leaders. Our founding fathers gave us these rights to practice hoping we would
take full advantage. It is important to understand exactly what one is voting
for because it will directly affect the lives of millions of people. Having
engaged in conversation with people who do base their voting selections off of
one or two key issues, I can legitimately say that it’s usually people who are
extremely family oriented or fairly religious. I understand everyone has morals
and beliefs that they keep close to them if these individuals knew in fair
detail the policy of the politician they were voting for, then I feel as though
they would change their position. Of course, no one has the time to do deep
analysis of each candidate but certain positions are a must.

Citizens have a moral obligation to do an analysis of all the candidates voting
before choosing one.
