They're Just Kids!

Personally, I’m not the protesting kind but I refuse to buy anything made by Hanes (the clothing company).I used to be a fan of the clothing line’s under garnets because of comfort(undershirt and boxers) but I’ve read too many reports of child labor. There has been denial but the stories surfaced more than once. Clearly, it shows that I am not willing to put a child’s life and well-being at risk when other viable clothing options are available. I feel as though as consumers it is our responsibility to know what you are buying.

Rubber Bands are Cool?

On a crisp Monday morning of the first day back from winter break in 6th grade, I quickly ran outside and checked the temperature. Seeing dew as I first stepped out, I knew it would be brisk enough to wear pants. The idea alone excited me more than cereal, which is what got me out of bed every morning until then. I would finally be able to sport the new look that was popular in my school, rubber bands on the bottom of one’s jeans. From here, I threw on my cloth and sported my new hip look.

Why I am who I am

My name is Natnael Aklile and I’m from Silver Spring, Maryland but originally from Ethiopia.  Being from this heritage that my family has, we consider loyalty and respect as a constant and consistent way of life. Physically, I call my physical house home because that is where the most important people to me live but mentally I make everywhere home since my values come with me. The values that they have installed in me allow me to become my individual self in this American modern generation but still holding on to my family ideals.
